Internal Wall Insulation

There are two types of main Internal Wall Insulation

  • Type 1: Insulation boards are either fixed directly to the walls, this creates a layer of insulation without cold bridging

  • Type 2: An Internal frame is constructed with an insulating material placed between the frame and then a rigid insulation is then placed over the frame to stop thermal bridging, which has been created by the frame.

Both methods have there advantages and disadvantages.

For instance where room it tight in hallways boards fix

Stud walls are stronger than insulation boards and can easily hold the weight of shelving, cupboards, etc. but they tend to be thicker than insulation boards. Both options will require the removal and replacement of fittings such as light switches, skirting boards, etc.

The choice of technique will depend upon how your property is constructed. Internal Wall Insulation installers will be able to advise which solution is best.
